Blog EntryChoose me... I'm new and improved.Oct 25, '07 12:15 AM
for everyone

What a strange new world we old people live in. Well the young people live in it too. They just have no comparison. They accept it as it is.

I am speaking of CHOICE. We now have many, many choices.

Yahoo screws up, glitches on us, sends us a message that they are going to integrate an we start to bail. And we do that because we understand that life changes fast... real fast. Experience tells us that. But another thing... more important...... we have no patience for the problematic. If something screws us a few times... we are off and running to something else, only to find a new set of problems or the same old ones.

The older readers will remember when things were simpler, and that may not be a good word to use, simpler implies better and perhaps nostalgia paints that idea. Back in the day we had few choices. We had less expectation and more tolerance.

We can look in our grocery stores and realize that choices are abundant. The pop isle alone is daunting.

Is this a good thing? Im not sure. I meet more and more unsatisfied people, more and more people that are in a bogged down mode. Too many choices... so little time.

I think I have mention this before,, I am getting senile so forgive me if I repeat myself. I read a book years ago called Future. It was very prophetic. I didnt believe it at the time.... but now I do.

Can you imagine how simple your life could be if you had 4 choices of soda pop? Just 4, Coke, Pepsi, 7up, and Dr. Pepper. This is an impossible idea for you.. most of you are asking where the diet pop is. Well, back in the day, we had to live with these choices and we did.

Now the item we choose changes before our very eyes. The color of lipstick that you buy today is no longer available in 6 months. You now have to decide... make a choice... be in a state of thought about lipstick. Compound that by a thousand... and you can imagine how many decisions you have to make in a week. It becomes overwhelming. We bog down.. we no longer care, especially at an older age.

Let us hope and pray that we do not attach these same ideas, same impatience, same intolerance to people. Let us try to be kinder and more forgiving... lest we not be forgiven, lest we are replaced with a new friend and new acquaintance.

Just words from an old broad... in reflection. Zee
